Huawei launches Petal Maps, Docs and adds a slew of features to Petal Search, an alternative to Google's apps
After a long time being affected by the US government ban, Huawei is in the process of developing more applications to replace the Google Mobile Services (GMS) toolkit pre-installed on Android devices licensed by Google. . Most recently, the Chinese manufacturer has released the Petal Maps application, Docs and added many features to the Petal Search search engine.
Petal Maps
Petal Maps is Huawei's solution to replace Google Maps. This app will provide directions navigation in both 2D and 3D views. In addition, users can also zoom in, zoom out, rotate or tilt the map through the controls on the screen.
The app also supports showing the fastest routes along with real-time traffic and local public transit route information, however this feature will be limited to some major cities.
Alternatively, you can search for nearby places like restaurants, properties, and other locations and mark them as favorites. The location data of the user on the map is also committed by Huawei to be end-to-end encrypted.
Petal Maps is expected to soon be released to the AppGallery app store (Beta version) and supported in more than 140 countries and regions at launch, including many languages such as English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Mandarin.
Huawei Docs
Huawei Docs allows to view or edit documents in various formats including PDF, PPT, DOC, ... This is the solution that Huawei offers to replace office suites. The app also supports real-time cloud sync and allows multiple users to work on the same document with different devices simultaneously.
Petal Search is adding new features
Huawei launched Petal Search as a search engine to find apps and games that aren't on AppGallery. Over time, the app evolved into an official search engine. Now, Petal Search allows users to quickly search for information and services across more than 20 categories, including apps, news, videos, photos, shopping, flights, local businesses, ...
Petal Search supports over 50 languages, available in more than 170 countries and regions around the world. Users were able to search for information through both voice and text input. In the future, Huawei will allow users to search for anything through the camera. This feature is quite similar to Google Lens on Android devices.
Along with that, the information card is also designed to be more intuitive, displaying certain information in the search results so that users do not need to search on many different websites.
